Katie Taylor (born July 2, 1986, in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland) is an Irish professional boxer and former footballer, widely regarded as one of the greatest female boxers of all time. She began boxing in 1998 and quickly rose through the amateur ranks, making history at age 15 by participating in the first officially sanctioned women's boxing bout in Ireland. Throughout her amateur career, she won six World Championships and five European Championships, culminating in winning the gold medal in the lightweight division at the 2012 London Olympics, making her Ireland’s first Olympic boxing gold medallist and a national sporting icon. Taylor turned professional in 2016 and rapidly achieved success, winning the WBA lightweight title in 2017 and the IBF title in 2018. In 2019, she unified all four major lightweight titles (WBA, IBF, WBC, and WBO) by defeating Delfine Persoon, becoming one of only eight boxers, male or female, to hold all four major belts simultaneously. She later also became the undisputed super lightweight champion in 2023 after defeating Chantelle Cameron, making her the second woman and first Irish female boxer to be an undisputed champion in two weight classes. Taylor is known for her fast-paced, aggressive boxing style and has maintained an undefeated record for much of her career, with notable victories over Amanda Serrano, Delfine Persoon, and Chantelle Cameron. She has played a pivotal role in raising the profile of women's boxing worldwide. As of late 2025, she is ranked as the world’s best active female boxer pound-for-pound and remains a prominent figure in the sport.
